The Roots
Sculpted hands growing out of roots
Monumental white hands grow out of uprooted tree roots and lie directly on the ground, among the grass and stones of an open slope. Each sculpture holds, touches or lets go — a gesture of the bond between a person and the place they grow from.
The objects work at different distances: up close you see the texture of the wood and the modelling of the fingers; from above, a composition inscribed into the landscape, where shadows become part of the work.
